ReCenT YM ViRuS AttaCk!
Hello dear friends... have been a long time since i last blogged.. these maybe due to the following reasons... A)my computer is infested with a bug. B)had been out of town. C)had been busy watching a tv series.. me want ming dao!!! wheeee!!
Ahem, back to business... to all those who had been infected by a Virus... (a little info on the virus -- it will automatically send messages to all ur buddy list in ym to go to a site that will infect their computer and do horrible stuffs. Like disabling Task Manager and Regedit and will set ur browser to the virus site) and it will also do some of those unwanted window shaking stuffs... grrrr... In addition, it will create junk status in your YM..)
Heck yea.. it was started by my lovable brother... this is what you should do..
1. download ad-aware antivirus program : of course install it
2. if you want to be safer, you can also download spybot and noadware - these are but optional. I didn't do any of these
3. Reboot and press F8 to enter Safe mode and manually DELETE from C:\Windows\ the following:
a) svhost.exe
b) svhost32.exe
c) unwise32.exe - didn't actually see this
d) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES got rid of run svchost - and this
NOTE: if you don't go to SAFE MODE, it won't allow you to delete those files... :(
4. Your computer should be clean of those virus by now but you still want to clean your YM from the junk status... just download YM_Cleaner

di ko ata getch yun.. hahaha!!! do i have to click on the play button? :D
Often I wonder why people spam on IM. What makes this IM spam so much easier to ignore is because so many people are irresponsible enough to do group IM sending worthless messages and ask people to pass it along. If it's pointless, ignore it.
It is worth noting that the attack is only on Windows machines, even though I never clicked through any of those.
It's good that you post the method. I think you were also infected (obviously you were).

hello mr schmidt,
Obviously i got infected, but it was not thru carelessness but on the people who are using my computer. And people don't just irresponsibly send worthless messages to their group of friends but rather the worm was programmed to do that if one accidentally clicked on the link. ^^
Yes, it's apparent this one is caused by a worm. But it illustrates the same kind of IM-spam that people often receive... careless folks spend time reading it and clicking any link dropped by. The exploitation here is the worm using your friend's identity to tell you a message.
The thing is... even without these worms, people do group IM spamming. And it's annoying and irritating. So, this kind of attack, I expect would not be so rampant and damaging, yet a lot of people seemed to have gotten a bit carried away with the click.
~ Jack.
I guess some people have lots of time to spare so as to read those junk mails. Lemme see, when i was out of work before, i'd usually read junk mails and click away on those links. But once one gets busy and spend more time at work, well, their habits change and they no longer pay attention to the nitty gritty details the net has to offer.. ^^
Hmm... that's the cause why the famous love virus got into pentagon.. its mainly due to people's curiosity and their interest on that topic.. (",)
thanks a lot mr. schmidt for dropping by your comments though. :D
